Mayan Ruins
We traveled across the Gulf of Mexico all night arriving at Progreso, Yucatan right after sun up. (Not to be confused with Nuevo Progreso on the Texas/Mexico border) We had chosen as our excursion for the day a trip inland to the Mayan Ruins at Dzibilchaltun.
The picture of the sunrise is cloudy because when I stepped out on the balcony my camera lense immediately fogged.

We managed to make our way through the duty free shopping area without buying anything. Then, found our bus for our little day trip.

There were several buildings. It is amazing what they were able to build!
Natural swim area known as a cenote. They are openings in the limestone strata of the Yucatan Peninsula where undergroud water comes to the surface. The entire peninsula has these located all about. This particular cenote varied in depth from just a couple of feet at the left of the picture, to more than 160 feet deep at the far end of the picture. It really looked inviting since it was so humid and by this time we were really hot, but we had decided not to try to carry/manage change of clothes, etc. needed for a swim.

I wanted to document some of the plants growing in the area. Look familiar? Actually, the whole area looked like the Texas Hill Country and south Texas.
This is the Temple of the Seven Dolls. The door ways and windows line up to where when the sun rises at certain times of the year, it signals when to plant (left window), when to harvest (right window) and the spring equinox in March (doorway in the middle).

Back to the buses!
